Musical Interests

I fancy myself a guitarist. But after more than 44 years of playing, I find that it's still an aspirational goal. I'm still learning.

Someone asked me a while back, "If money weren't an issue, and if you could do anything you wanted, what would you do?" Everyone knows I'd want to play guitar in a rock band.

My musical influences include a broad range of artists from The Beatles to Judas Priest. My "sweet spot" is "80's hairband music."

My guitar influences include "John, Paul, & George," Ace Frehley, Randy Rhoads, Michael Schenker, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen, Mathias Jabs, Tipton/Downing, Gary Moore, and my friend Troy Stetina.

When I was younger and couldn't afford more than one or two guitars, I had to get rid of one when I saw a new one I wanted (much like girlfriends back in the day). But today I'm lucky enough that I can just keep accumulating them (not at all like girlfriends).

I sang lead in most of my bands, but pretty much out of necessity. We were constantly looking for the "ideal lead singer and front-man and never found him. But with layered harmonies, my last band sounded a lot like Night Ranger.

Here's an image carousel of some things from the musical past (and some not so long ago).
